For Others

This prayer is simple in outline and intended to help you as you face the events and news, near and far, that surround you. If possible, have at hand some pictures or reports from the news of things which have recently caught your attention - why did you notice that news, rather than something else? Is God calling for your prayers, your response? Use the prayer before you dwell on each news item and make additions as necessary:

Be merciful, Lord, to all those facing trouble:
those who are exhausted, those deep in sorrow or despair,
those facing death, disease and loss
those for whom the world is is a prison
those for whom destruction is a way of life
those ...
Be merciful, Lord,
to me as I gaze helplessly upon these troubles;
strengthen me with the resolve of your love;
Renew in me your mission of justice, peace and love.

God our Father,Creator of the world,
please help us to love one another.
Make nations friendly with other nations;
make all of us love one another like brothers and sisters.
Help us to do our part to bring peace in the world and happiness to all people.
Amen.

Gracious Father, we pray for peace in our world:
for all national leaders that they may have wisdom to know and courage to do what is right;
for all men and women that their hearts may be turned to yourself in the search for righteousness and truth;
for those who are working to improve international relationships, that they may find the true way of reconciliation;
for those who suffer as a result of war:
the injured and disabled,
the mentally distressed,
the homeless and hungry,
those who mourn for their dead,
and for those who are without hope or friend to sustain them in their grief.
Amen.

Lord Jesus, from your cross light, healing and hope pour out onto us all.
We hold before you those living with fear anxiety guilt pain injustice or despair.
We remain before you in silence for all who need your love.
