I Am
You may have noticed (see Manager's Picks) that the book
being used by groups in Swanage during Lent is based on the "I am" sayings
of Jesus
Perhaps you may like to do something similar, here are some suggestions.
First of all think about "I am" in your own life - maybe make a list of the things starting I am .. about yourself.
I am ......
I am ......
Now think about other people you hear saying "I am"
I am ......
I am ......
Now turn to the words of Jesus and look what he says when he uses "I am"
I am ......
The Bread of Life (John chapter 6, verse 35) -
The Resurrection and The Life (John chapter 11, verse 25)
The Light of The World (John chapter 8, verse 12)
There are others, you may like to have a look. But first, look at the lists you have made and then think about them and what Jesus said, compare them.
How would you feel if you were Martha and Jesus was telling you that he is "the resurrection and the life" what would you say to him? Or the "bread of life" - what feeds you; or what or who lights the path that you follow. How do you think Jesus might respond to one of your "I am" phrases?
After looking at all these lists and sayings, take a little time just to sit quietly and allow one of Jesus' phrases to turn over in your mind. If thoughts come to you, offer them to God in prayer and if not, just allow yourself to be refreshed by the peace and by looking at things from a different perspective than you own "I am"
