ENCOUNTERS by EDDIE ASKEW
Eddie Askew has recently had a new book published. He is one of the best
selling Christian authors of our time and also an extremely good water
colourist. The book contains many of his brilliant paintings and is based
on the lives of five biblical characters that encounter Jesus face to
face and their lives are wonderfully transformed. One of the characters
written about is Thomas whose doubts evaporate when he recognises his
Living Lord. Then there's the men born blind and crippled from birth who
were miraculously healed by the Lord. There's also chapters on Peter and
Mary Magdalene.
If you know and love the work of Eddie Askew as I know many of you do,
this book is a must!
Available at the Centre at £4.95.
NOBODY'S CHILD by John Robinson, published
by Monarch at £6.99.
Last week I posted this book to a customer who wrote in reply, " Many
thanks indeed for sending the book; just what I wanted. I'd read the foreward/acknowledgements/quick
run down of contents as per book cover within ten minutes of opening the
parcel. Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down." On this recommendation
I took the book from the shelf and began reading. I'd finished it by the
end of the day. It's the story of John Robinson. He had the worst possible
start in life being moved from care home to care home and then to detention
centres, borstal, life on the streets and finally psychiatric hospital.
Finding God at last, his life changes and through faith in Him..........well,
I'll leave you to find out the rest! It's heartbreaking in places but
encouraging as it shows how God never gives up on us however bad or helpless
we might be. Finally it gives hope to all of us who struggle with hurts
from the past and is an amazing witness of faith and perseverence.
"The Heavenly Man"
The remarkable true story of Chinese Christian Brother
Yun is currently the best selling book in the shop.
The book was awarded the title of "Book Of The Year 2003" and published
by Monarch.
It's about the inspirational and heroic story of a radical Christian in
the house churches of China. It's an intensely dramatic story of how God
took a young, half - starved boy from a poor village in Henan Province
and used him mightily to preach the Gospel despite terrible opposition.
Brother Yun suffered prolonged torture and imprisonment for his faith.
This account challenges any complacency about the situation in China,
where international economic investment ignores the brutal fact that religious
persecution is still a daily reality for millions.
This book is a must for your book shelf!
