Impact

Swanage Impact is a detached youth work based on the streets of Swanage

Impact was originally born out of a vision which Mike Yates and Ruth Windo both had to see a detached youth work taking place on the streets of Christchurch. At Impact we want to incorporate a multi Church and multi Agency (MAYO) approach in order to provide for the needs of the young people we come into contact with.

Impact is in Swanage every friday night, and Mike and Ruth are professionally qualified youth workers bringing a variety of experience to the project.

The core values are:

  • To be a Supportive Listening service, accessible to young people via a client centered informal education approach.
  • To have a non-judgemental, non-confrontational, non-authoritative approach to young people who socialise on the streets at night.
  • To help young people reach their full potential, as well as safeguarding their welfare in whatever circumstances they are in, and be advocates for them where necessary.

In all we do, we aim to work in partnership with other youth provision services to promote multi Agency problem solving, and achieve a joined-up approach. Through MAYO we aim to support existing youth providers such as Youth Service, Connexions, Shadows, Purbeck Council, Police and local churches and to minimise duplication of services, maximise working together to provide the best quality youth work possible.
