Fairtrade

We are proud to have hosted the inaugural meeting of the Purbeck Fairtrade network way back in October 2002 and to have supported the push to obtain Fairtrade status for Swanage in July 2005 and Purbeck the following year.

The tea, coffee, hot chocolate, orange juice, biscuits and home made cakes we serve are all Fairtrade. If you haven't tried our ginger cookies, you've missed a treat....they're gorgeous! But perhaps you prefer the Fairbreak chocolate wafers or choc chip cookies? We'd love to hear your comments. Many people have praised our tea as the best cuppa they've had in ages. We're exploring ways to expand the range of Fairtrade refreshment on offer, so watch this space.

Our Traidcraft Stall

Our Traidcraft stall, run by a church member, has grown over the years and now stocks a wide range of Fairtrade foods together with crafts and we have recently started stocking beauty products and stationery to see how they go. Profits from the stall in 2009 were given to Farm Africa and Christian Aid, as well as to the Centre.

During Fairtrade fortnight in 2009, as well as providing the ecumenical men's prayer group with a Fairtrade breakfast, we were privileged to host a tea party for local supporters and Arsene Sourabie, a Fairtrade mango grower from Burkino Faso and his interpreter from the Fairtrade Foundation. Arsene gave us an inspirational talk on the difference Fairtrade has made to his life and that of his community.

Fairtrade Fortnight runs from Feb 20th to 7th March. If you are interested in supporting Fairtrade do come along, or contact Anne Squires, secretary to Swanage Fairtrade through the centre, or email fairlight@waitrose.com.
